Education students from the College of Education (CEd) successfully conducted a month-long community literacy program in three barangays surrounding the QCU campus. The program, called "Basa Kabataan," aimed to improve reading skills among elementary school children from underprivileged families.
Over 60 education students volunteered as reading tutors, spending their weekends conducting interactive reading sessions, storytelling activities, and educational games with more than 150 children. The program also provided free reading materials and school supplies to the participants.
"This community immersion experience is an essential part of our teacher education program," said CEd Dean Dr. Linda Garcia. "It allows our students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings while making a meaningful impact on the community."
The program received support from local government units, non-governmental organizations, and private donors who contributed books, learning materials, and refreshments for the children.
